T1059.001 PowerShell T1059.003 Windows Command Shell T1059.005 Visual Basic T1204.002 Malicious File

The sample is identified as malicious by ClamAV with the signature 'Doc.Downloader.EmotetExcel02226-9938630-0'. The Workbook_Open VBA macro is designed to execute a batch file located at 'c:\programdata\jledshf.bat'. This batch file, in turn, uses 'wscript.shell' to execute a complex, obfuscated PowerShell command. The PowerShell command appears to be a downloader, attempting to fetch and execute payloads from multiple URLs, including 'http://activatedes.laforetlanguages.com/wp-admin/BlkDOKXJL/'. The VBA code also contains obfuscated strings that reconstruct URLs, such as 'https://www.parkinson.co.in/abc/Y6Y0fTbUEg6/', which are also included as IOCs.

    Workbook_Open macro
  • CreateObject call high OLE_VBA_CREATEOBJ
    CreateObject call
  • VBA p-code auto-exec with execution tokens high OLE_VBA_PCODE_AUTOEXEC_EXEC
Compiled VBA/cache stream contains an auto-execution token together with shell/download/object-execution tokens. This catches p-code-only or source-extraction-failure macro documents where visible source is unavailable.
  • Suspicious extracted artifact high EXTRACTED_FILE_STATIC_TRIAGE
One or more files extracted from inside this sample matched static suspicious-content checks such as script obfuscation, encoded payload blobs, packed data, or execution/download terms.
  • VBA macros detected medium OLE_VBA_MACROS
