The critical ClamAV detection and high-severity heuristics for VBA macros, including Workbook_Open and CreateObject, strongly indicate malicious intent. The embedded VBA script attempts to execute a batch file located at 'c:\programdata\jledshf.bat' and also contains a PowerShell command that decodes a Base64 string. This PowerShell command is responsible for downloading and executing a second-stage payload from multiple URLs, including 'http://chupahfashio.com/eh6bwxk/bowptl/xdAiC...'. The presence of the Workbook_Open auto-execution routine and the use of CreateObject to instantiate Wscript.Shell are classic Emotet delivery techniques.

  • CreateObject call high OLE_VBA_CREATEOBJ
    CreateObject call
  • VBA p-code auto-exec with execution tokens high OLE_VBA_PCODE_AUTOEXEC_EXEC
Compiled VBA/cache stream contains an auto-execution token together with shell/download/object-execution tokens. This catches p-code-only or source-extraction-failure macro documents where visible source is unavailable.
  • Suspicious extracted artifact high EXTRACTED_FILE_STATIC_TRIAGE
One or more files extracted from inside this sample matched static suspicious-content checks such as script obfuscation, encoded payload blobs, packed data, or execution/download terms.
  • VBA macros detected medium OLE_VBA_MACROS
    Document contains VBA macro code
